A couple of issues under Mac OS 10.8

Postby HairyHighlandCow » Sat Dec 01, 2012 1:40 pm

Hi,
I'm seeing a couple of issues under Mac OS 10.8.2 with SC 4.7.3 and I just wondered if anyone else is seeing them. If not, it may be something to do with my system set-up.

The first is with the command:
Code: Select all
write "test" to console

Nothing appears in the console, under any of the message categories in the sidebar and after refreshing in the console toolbar.

Secondly, the font 'Helvetica Neue Regular' (in SC it is just called 'Helvetica Neue') displays a square symbol character before any carriage returns when used in fields and draw text objects. I'm using the official Apple system version of Helvetica Neue as far as I know, so I don't think the font is damaged. The problem does not occur with bold, medium and other weights of the font.

Thanks
Alec

I can confirm this.

I can confirm this also, but...

If you select bold in SC's menu when using the regular font it still occurs.

All the best

Internally SuperCard 4.73 uses four different methods of writing to the console (most are only for debugging).

Luckily Mountain Lion breaks only three of them. Can you guess which one still works? ;-)

I just posted a simple XCmd called writeToConsole that does the same thing (but uses The One True Religion to do it).

Hi Mark,
Thanks very much for that. Most of the time I use my own custom SC console, but occasionally I need to write things out to the console app when testing standalones so your external will come in handy.
Cheers

I have just read this exchange and I am at the point (almost) of testing a standalone before release. I would like to know more how you use Console in the testing of standalones. Is it just recording of the events?

Thanks,
Richard

Hi, when you tell SC to write something to the console, it appears in the log in the Console application which is inside your Applications folder inside the Utilities folder. You can use the "write x to console" command to make a standalone log things while it is running, which can be useful to check it is doing what you want it to. You might want to write variables out to the console at certain points or maybe user properties. If you have the Console app open at the same time as your standalone, you can keep an eye on the messages sent by your standalone in its log window while the standalone is running. Cheers, Alec
