MPI 4.3.1

Here's where to discuss using Stéphane Leys' very well done alternative runtime editor. If you're a control freak at runtime you have to check this out!

MPI 4.3.1

Postby S. Leys » Thu Mar 18, 2010 1:19 am

I have posted MPI 4.3.1 at the usual address :
http://modulopi.pagesperso-orange.fr/index.html

What's new :
- Gradients
I've stretched my brain to add a gradient tool to the OGL module.
Very easy to use, just a few clicks, it is explained here :
http://modulopi.pagesperso-orange.fr/gradients.html

- The Alpha module
http://modulopi.pagesperso-orange.fr/Alpha.html

- The IP
The IP offers a new option for converting cicn to icns.

Two new goodies
- The Exporter
I noticed that, when a picture had been dropped into a field, it wasn't easy to get it back. So I made the exporter, which allows exporting pictures to any format by D&D from a field, a graphic with picturedata or a file from the Finder. It is handy for converting file formats, for instance, the standard screenshot tool (cmd-shift-4) creates a png while we often need a jpeg. D&D the screenshot from the desktop to the Exporter, it will create another file of the selected format.

- The icns maker
The icns maker allows doing what its name says. D&D a picture from SC or the finder to the palette

once the icns is done, D&d it to the topwindow. icns are limited to size 128.

- Fonts
I had a report about some fonts missing in MPI's fonts menu. MPI was building its menus from the FM font list. Now, it will include in its menu the ATS fonts detected as working in SC fields (a few of them).

Installation gotchas.
I had some reports saying that the installer failed. The "Install MPI" project must be open by the version of SC where you want to install MPI. The problem is that, when double-clicking it, the Finder may fail to find the appropriate version of SC and open the installer with the player, a standalone or even SE (I have added an alert to explain this if it is open in the player or a standalone).
There are several solutions to avoid this :
- D&D the installer to SC in the Finder or the dock
- context-click it and choose in the "open with" submenu
- open SC first and open the installer from the file menu (the RTE one or the MPI one)
- open its info box and select its parent app
Reminder to registered users : if the installer finds the old version of MPI open, it will copy the registration info to the new version, otherwise, you'll have to enter it manually.
Remember that the copy of MPI which actually runs is the copy the installer installed in the SC Pouch. The folder you downloaded is to be kept as a backup. The version of MPI in this folder won't work because MPI must be in the SC Pouch. The reason of this is explained in the FAQs.

Are the provided links exactly correct?
I get messages like 'can’t find the server “modulopi.pagesperso-orange.fr”.'

It works here.

What if you use the link in my signature, at the bottom ?
Somebody else has this problem ?

Using the address at your signature, and trying Firefox instead of my usual Safari, I got this message :
Firefox can't find the server at modulopi.pagesperso-orange.fr.
Sorry to be a nuisance. I expect I'm being dumb. JC

I've downloaded and installed all the MPI updates, but it's been so long since I've touched SC that I won't have any idea what it does when I get back to it, maybe when some of my present duties expire in January. That'll be a riot of learning and relearning.  :?

Many thanks for all the work, Stéphane.                             --Jim

I can't download. Get an error message using your download link. Tried more than once.

Yes, I know. I've sent mails to my ISP. They're aware of the problem and told me that it should be fixed today.
So, I'll wait until tomorrow before sending them one more telling off mail and, if it isn't fixed quickly, I'll try to find an alternative solution.

Apparently, they kept their word. It seems to be working now. For how long ?

Worked this time. Downloaded.
Thanks for fixing it — or at least nagging them.

S.,
The feature in MPI prefs for setting font and size of scripts IS REALLY GREAT! I always have to change this and now it is automated.
Thank you VERY much.
