zip archives only?

Is this for convenience or will .sit files not work with the forum software?

Hey Vince,

I chose zip files for two reasons. I want folks to compress all uploads, and everyone using the current version of SuperCard under OS X will be able to extract them. The latter can't be said of .sit archives.

But if you have a compelling reason for why .sit files should be allowed I am certainly willing to consider it.

I don't have strong feelings either way, but perhaps one more reason not to upgrade Stuffit next time. I was just curious....

I can't remember whether it was in Tiger or Leopard, but Stuffit Expander no longer ships with new Macs.

Well I kind of have strong feelings on this -- .zip is the Mac standard now, users should not have to download a third-party app based on a proprietary format to be able to access SC-related files. Stick with .zip only. :)

Nice to see you on this Forum Lisa.
I agree that .zip to the way to go now.
I slowly and reluctantly have given up sit this and sit that.
StuffIt still has some nice features though and I use the 'Magic Menu' all the time
although there may be some contextual menu built into OSX that I'm not aware of.

Leopards built in zipper does not support password protected archives, whereas stuffit does, but that shouldn't be a problem for the SC archive - the user would need a copy of stuffit expander in this case. Also .sit or sitx archives will often be smaller than zip files. I don't know how much file space there is here, so whether that is a factor is up to Scott.

Control (or right) click the file or folder to be zipped. Depending on your OS version there will be an option to archive or compress.
