Don't Let Your Data Go Down

Postby Anderson » Wed Jun 05, 2013 5:58 am

Sad but true...
I was happily editing some text files which exist on a LEXAR USB when the DMG disappeared. The stick seems to be unmountable now and the little light doesn't flash when it is inserted into either of my machines (iMac, MacBook). Is this the end? is my data doomed? I've tried checking it with disk utility and it seems the only option may be to erase and re-format.
Lesson learned? - always back-up your data.

I'll add one more thing to consider... and that is that backups are useless if the location it is in is subject to fire, floods, or some other disaster. A 3.5 inch drive fits nicely in the smallest of your bank's safe deposit boxes. If you don't keep a regularly updated backup in there (or some other secure, off-site alternative), you're admitting you can live without your data in the event of an emergency.
