Hi,

Does anyone have any documentation for the use of these externals please.

The state of documentation for these is incomplete at best, but I have posted what I have at:

Where are these externals distributed ?

I have found the only working copies of these externals in a ListMaster demo project

who is maintaining / has the latest source code ?

 also , I would like to alert that the forum is NOT allowing any file uploads ( The extension .. zip, sitx sc45 is not allowed.

I ask because I want to know if I can rely on that extra functionality or not

The Array and SortArray XFcns are used in the 4.x RTE, so they're unlikely to 'go away' until Cocoa obsoletes Carbon externals altogether.

Just as with SC <4.8 though unfortunately Apple has already broken non-US English date and numerical sorting(/summing) by quietly cutting out their localization underpinnings. However since they're not documented and we don't use those features in the RTE, there hasn't exactly been a clamor for them to be updated...

The replacement date/number <--> string APIs used in SC 4.8 are Cocoa-based, so as usual there could be problems with calling them directly in externals (because Cocoa code doesn't expect to be unloaded, as externals are when their host project closes or they're removed/updated).

Calling back into SC's own internal Carbon shims for these would sidestep that problem, but since none of those 4.8 IT extensions are documented yet I'm the only one who can do it.

So basically if you stick to the functionality used in the RTE, you're probably safe. If you require the broken parts, then you should file a feature request ASAP.

Does that help any?

yes, thanks

I'm actually interested in using them as they appear in the ListMaster demo
