getColumn() and the like

Postby parttimeprogrammer » Sat May 28, 2016 8:23 pm

Are there current versions somewhere out there of the getColumn(), insertColumn() etc externals that used to work with earlier versions of SuperCard?

PS excellent job on 4.8b18. Thanks!

Offhand I'm not sure whether those are mine (by now alas I've written literally HUNDREDS of externals I've completely forgotten about... ;-) ) but I'll check when I get home tomorrow.

If not, FWIW I'm sure you could easily replicate this functionality with shell or unixTask.

I looked around didn't find these anywhere on my drives.

Do you remember any more about where you got them?

Thanks for looking--I suspect they may have lingered from HyperCard days, possibly HyperExternals Pro (I'm really dating myself, I think that goes back to the 80s). It's not a big deal, but they come in handy for extracting and inserting items in smaller arrays. SQL is great for larger amounts of data, but a bit excessive for say 10 lines of 10 items. However, just writing a getColumn() routine in SuperTalk is generally sufficiently speedy for that amount of data.

Keep up the good work!
